Mako-satin is a fabric of the highest quality. This textile began to be made in the 19th century from long-staple Egyptian cotton. The distinctive feature of the latter is the great length of the fiber and its strength, which plays the most important role in further processing and creation of high-quality fabric.
How was this cotton invented?
This type of cotton began to be grown in the northern part of Egypt in the Nile Delta as early as the 19th century. There are several versions of the origin of the name of this fabric. According to one of them, this type of cotton grew in the garden of the governor of Cairo Mako Bey, and Louis Jumel, being a far-sighted entrepreneur, suggested to the head of Egypt, who was in charge at the time, to grow this type of cotton on an industrial scale to create better textiles.

According to another version, the seeds were brought from Sudan to Egypt by Mako Bey, after which he showed the plant to the Egyptian pasha and suggested planting this plant. Now the true reason for the name of this fabric is unknown, but its quality has been valued for more than two centuries.
Description and composition of the fabric
Mako-satin is a textile made of 100% cotton. The best cotton in the world is used to make this fabric. This type of satin is distinguished by its smoothness, lack of unevenness and roughness. In addition, it is considered environmentally friendly due to the absence of any chemical additives or impurities used in production.
This material is distinguished by its durability, thinness and lightness. It is not slippery, so during sleep the blanket will not slide off with every turn.
Please note! Mako-satin is highly breathable, so bed linen made from this textile can be used both in winter and summer. Due to its porosity, the fabric gives a feeling of coolness and lightness on hot summer days.

Even after repeated washing, the material retains its smoothness and softness. It is durable, which can be measured by the number of cycles. The bed linen will remain unchanged even after 350-400 washes. Only after a long period of time the material may slightly fade, but it will not start to fade and will perfectly hold its shape. The textile does not shrink in size and does not lose its shine. It is ideal for people suffering from allergies and having sensitive or problematic skin.
How is it different from satin?
The prefix "mako" in the name means that this type of satin is made from special mako cotton. It is distinguished by the length of the fiber and its strength, due to which this special variety belongs to the elite Egyptian cotton.
Please note! Threads from this plant are characterized by ideal smoothness, evenness and fineness.
The subtleties of making mako-satin
Mako-satin is the king of the world of natural textiles, which are considered luxury. It is made using threads from Egyptian cotton, which is distinguished by its fine fibers. When twisted, they form extremely strong threads. The value and cost of cotton are determined not only by its characteristics, but also by the fact that the time for maturing this type of cotton is spent almost twice as long as for other types, and the yield is significantly lower.

In the production of fabric, cotton is first cleaned, combed, washed, and then mercerized. During the final stage of fiber production, it is possible to obtain glossy, strong, and ultra-thin threads.

The following types of satin are used to make clothing and bed linen:

Please note! However, the most expensive, valuable and high-quality is mako-satin.

How to choose and how to care
When making a purchase remotely, it is recommended to ask the seller or consultant of the online store for a certificate of the manufacturer of the fabric and the sewing enterprise. When buying underwear in a regular store, you can find out what kind of fabric Mako-satin it is and its quality in the following ways:
- to the touch: the material is light, thin, does not stretch and is translucent;
- by smell: the fabric does not have a chemical, vinegar or other pungent aroma;
- in appearance: underwear with thin seams that are carefully processed, there are no hanging threads along the edges.
How to wash Mako Satin products
It is quite easy to care for bed linen made of this material. It can easily be machine washed at a water temperature of no more than 60 °C. You can also add bleach during washing.

It is recommended to turn the laundry inside out beforehand and not to put it in the drum together with viscose and synthetics.
When drying, it is enough to hang the material evenly: it dries quickly, without forming folds or creases. If there is still a need for ironing, then you need to set the iron to the "Cotton" mode and use more steam.

Reviews
Reviews of the fabric are mostly positive.
Natalia, 32: "After buying bed linen made of Mako-satin, you don't want to touch anything else. The material washes well, dries quickly and doesn't need ironing. The cost of the set is steep, but it's worth it."

Oksana, 27: "Any synthetic materials or dyes cause allergies in me: my skin starts to itch, scratch, and I get hives. That's why choosing bed linen is not an easy task for me. Mako-satin is an environmentally friendly textile that is ideal for my body."

Thus, Mako-satin is a quality material that is famous for its advantages. But due to the high price, it is not affordable for everyone. And if you judge on the merits, it is easier to overpay for comfort and use for a long time than to spend the same amount during this time, only for synthetics.
