What is butter slime, what does it look like

Butter slime (from the English "butter" - oil) is a type of slime that resembles slightly melted butter. Its main feature is the ability to spread on absolutely any smooth surface without sticking or tearing. It is quite dense, but at the same time velvety and delicate in texture. Airy plasticine or soft clay gives the slime such properties.
Please note! Another of its characteristic individual properties is sizzle (from the English “sizzle” – hissing).
You can hear the hissing sound if you stretch the toy several times.

A bit of history
In 1976, the Mattel organization wanted to create an unusual toy and began experimenting with slime. And they succeeded.
In principle, there is every reason to believe that the first slimes were invented long before these events, but no one had copyright to it.
How to make a toy with your own hands
There are several recipes for slime oil, each with different ingredients.
Main Ingredients
The ingredients of the first "slugs" were guar gum and borax. Later, John Wright tried using rubber. This led to the creation of many other types of slimes.
Now the main components of slime are PVA glue, activator (most often sodium tetraborate), and light plasticine.
Safety precautions
Important! The entire process of creating the slime should be done under adult supervision, as chemicals will be used.
It is necessary to disinfect all instruments and containers after the experiment.
After playing, wash your hands thoroughly with soap. And lastly, do not use ingredients that are not listed. They may cause violent reactions, the consequences of which are injuries or death!

Another Butter Slime Recipe from Play-Doh
Ingredients:
- PVA 90 g;
- shower gel 35 g;
- dye 2 g;
- soda 5 g;
- hot water 270 ml;
- boric acid (activator) 12 ml.
Cooking technology:
- Combine glue and shower gel. Stir until smooth.
- Pour in the dye and stir again.
- Add baking soda and water to another bowl.
- Pour 16 ml of soda solution into the first mixture.
- Add the activator and begin to stir vigorously. The mass should become thick.
- Take a quantity of light plasticine equal to half the toy and knead it.
- Mix the slime with your hands until smooth.

Please note! For this recipe, the Original slime will be made first. The differences between the two will be explained after this recipe.
Ingredients:
- PVA glue 250 g;
- Hand cream 1.5 tsp;
- Activator 5 ml;
- Shampoo 10 ml;
- Soft Clay clay or soft plasticine 250 g.
Manufacturing stages:
- Mix the glue with the cream and stir until smooth.
- Add shampoo to the resulting mass. Stir gently.
Important! If you stir the mixture too quickly at this stage, a large foam will rise like yeast and you will get fluffy slime.
- Add the activator (sodium tetraborate) to the mass and start kneading the mass.
- If the toy starts to come away from the walls, continue kneading it with your hands.

To make butter slime from it, you need to put clay or airy plasticine in the form of small lumps on the toy. Then you should continue to knead the slime until you get a homogeneous mass.

So what is the difference between butter and original? Original is the basis of almost all slimes. It is elastic and viscous. If left alone, it can spread. It also clicks and crunches in every possible way. Butter is distinguished by its oily texture. It can be spread with a knife into a thin layer.

Its components:
- light plasticine 100 g;
- shaving foam 80 g.
Recipe: add shaving foam to the plasticine little by little (if you add all the foam at once, the slime will be sticky).
Tips for making
If the slime starts to stick to your hands, you can add a couple of drops of any activator and knead the toy with your hands. This will help fix the situation.
If the slime starts to dry out, all you need to do is add a little water or baby oil. This method will help prolong the life of the slime.
When playing with slime, it is important to have clean hands. If they are dirty, the slime will absorb all the dirt from your hands and begin to dry out. K
Storage rules
The most basic problems that can arise when making butter slime:
- The slime does not thicken.
- The slime doesn't stretch.
- The toy breaks.
- The toy dried out.
Now let's take everything in order.
If the slime doesn't thicken
The reasons for this are:
- Substances with expired shelf life.
- Introducing ingredients of a different consistency into the composition.
- Violation of the order of actions.
- Failure to maintain proportions.
Due to these reasons, butter slime may not thicken. The solution is trivial. This is the replacement of substances with a valid expiration date and the desired consistency, as well as compliance with the proportions and order of actions.
If the oil slime does not stretch, but tears
The reasons for this may be:
- Incorrect storage.
- Deficiency of certain substances.
- The slime has absorbed a lot of debris.

Here everything is more complicated. Most often, the slime lacks glue, but it should be added gradually. Then, if it is clogged, the toy should be heated in the microwave for 1 minute. Then, using tweezers, you need to pull out all the debris. This should be done carefully. After that, put it in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes. If the slime was stored incorrectly, you need to put the toy in water, stir, remove it and pour soda into it.
If the butter slime is dry
The main reason for this is improper storage. There are several tips that can help soften the butter:
- Add some water and stir the bat. It sounds trivial, but in some cases it can save the toy.
- Add body lotion or antibacterial gel (1 tbsp) and mix it into the slime.
- If the slime contains glue, you can add another 1 tbsp of this substance.
- You can soften the toy by heating it. To do this, leave it in hot water for a minute or put it in the microwave for 10 seconds.
- The slime may look like it's spreading, but it's actually fine.
How to Properly Store Slime
Here it is important to learn several important rules and conditions:
- The slime should be stored in an airtight jar or container with a tight-fitting lid.
- You should play with slime as often as possible or at least knead it for a couple of minutes a day.
- Also, you can't store the slime in warm places. It's better to keep it in the refrigerator or other cool places.

Butter Slime or "handgum" (from English "Hand" - hand and "Gum" - chewing gum) serves as an anti-stress for hands and making this toy at home is not so difficult. If you use your imagination and add a little decoration, you can get an unusual and interesting toy. At the same time, you should not add large decorations to butter slime, as they can spoil the texture. It is better to get by with small glitter to give it an unusual iridescence or shine.
