Slimes are the well-known toys, lizuns, consisting of an elastic and flexible mass. The composition includes polymer substances and activators, which provide the product with unique properties. Not everyone wants to buy ready-made products, and those who like to make toys themselves have a question about how to make a base for slime. There are several options for preparing the base, it can be either colorless or painted in any shade.
Main types of slime base
Slimes can be made using several methods. Before starting the process, you need to select the type of base, which is characterized by:
- according to textural indicators, it can be different: liquid, elastic or plastic;
- by color range - colorless or snow-white;
- by constituent substances - created from polymer elements or food components.
Important! The base for slime must meet safety criteria. Children put all new things in their mouths and if the toy is made from harmful substances, they can be seriously poisoned.
Ingredients required
To prepare the main substance, use:
- sodium tetraborate (borax);
- glue;
- starch;
- water;
- baking soda;
- shower gel, shampoo or soap;
- dishwashing detergents;
- flour;
- toothpaste;
- shaving foam;
- washing powder;
- plasticine;
- paper;
- hand cream;
- salt;
- hydrogen peroxide;
- glycerin;
- contact lens fluid and nail polish remover;
- egg, sugar.
Important! Before making a composition, you need to make sure that all ingredients are safe and that there is no allergy to individual components.
Recipe options
There are many methods that allow you to prepare a base for slime at home. The final version depends on the presence of components, the desired texture of the product and its transparency level.
On an adhesive base
When creating the base, you need to choose a white glue with a thick consistency that will thicken when exposed to open air. Craftsmen prefer to use:
- Contact, Titan, Ray;
- Novokhim, Lakra, Moment Stolyar;
- Berlingo, White House, Elmers, Brauberg, Erich Krauser.
If you want to get a transparent substance, it is better to use the stationery or silicate variety. There are separate recipes where both types are used simultaneously.
To prepare the base, take:
- one drop each of hand cream and essential oil;
- transparent Berlinger - 50 ml;
- shower gel - 3 drops;
- Borax - 1 pipette.
The procedure is carried out according to the following scheme:
- In a small container, mix the gel and Berlinger until smooth.
- During the process, add cream, then essential oil.
- Without stopping stirring, pour in the thickener. If the mass remains too liquid, then add a small amount of borax.
- After the substance thickens, it is brought to the desired consistency by hand.
Important! If there is no adhesive base, it is replaced with light plasticine or a mixture of raw protein and starch.
With shampoo and flour
Preference is given to wheat flour - it compacts the composition, but leaves it soft. The toy from it stretches worse, but is considered the safest. The procedure for preparing a slime includes the following steps:
- In a bowl, mix 4 tablespoons of liquid soap and 1 tablespoon of hand cream until a uniform consistency is obtained.
- Paint is added to the composition and distributed evenly.
- Add wheat flour one spoon at a time.
- Once the desired thickness is achieved, the toy is thoroughly kneaded with your hands.
Important! If you don’t have flour, it can easily be replaced with regular starch.
With shaving foam
The foam is in demand due to its delicate texture (due to oils and soap ingredients) and lush volume. The preservatives included in the composition make the mixture thicker.
Slime is prepared according to the standard algorithm:
- Fill a small bowl with shaving foam (10 tbsp) and mix it thoroughly with a spoon.
- Add 2 tablespoons of PVA glue to it, and after mixing, distribute the dye evenly over the surface.
- Add 0.5 teaspoon of borax to the mixture to make it thicker.
- The base is kneaded to the desired consistency - initially with a spatula, then with your hands.
Important! The main component can be replaced with shower gel or shampoo, but they are taken in smaller volumes. Excess soap substances will not allow the slime to take the expected shape, it will require large volumes of thickener.
With toothpaste
You can choose any type of paste, but white is often preferred. This approach will later help to paint the toy in any shade. It can be used as a main or additional component, allows you to make the figure stretchy and tender, with its own unique aroma.
Step-by-step cooking algorithm:
- 37.5 g of toothpaste is squeezed into a container and mixed. Coloring and 3 tbsp of powdered sugar are added to it.
- After obtaining a homogeneous mass, the mixture is placed in the refrigerator for 3 hours.
- Add 1 tbsp of starch to the cooled mixture and mix thoroughly.
Important! If toothpaste is a secondary ingredient, it can be replaced with shower gel.
Making a white base
The snow-white base is obtained from PVA glue, sodium tetraborate is used as an activator.
When preparing at home, add 1 tbsp. of shampoo or shower gel to the base - it will allow the mass to become more airy, but will not affect the overall elasticity characteristics. A snow-white figure will be obtained when using a recipe on an adhesive base.
Important! Professionals advise adding white paint to the composition to obtain the lightest shade. PVA does not always allow you to get a snow-white slime without a yellowish sheen.
Making a transparent base
The colorless toy can be prepared using many recipes. An interesting option is one without using an adhesive substance, with the inclusion of ball plasticine and toilet paper. The method is the simplest, suitable for beginners and lovers of experiments:
- Place 1 ball of plasticine in a container, tear 15 cm of toilet paper into small pieces and separate into layers.
- Pour 4 tablespoons of boiling water over the ingredients and stir until completely dissolved.
- The finished mixture is rubbed through a sieve and 0.5 teaspoon of an aqueous solution of borax is added to the resulting mass.
- After a long period of stirring, the toy is ready.
To remove excess water, leave the toy in an open container for a whole day. The original substance will be viscous, colorless and pleasant to the touch.
Important! The peculiarity of the recipe is the liquid consistency of the slime; it will not become elastic even after additional injection of the activator.
Rules for storing slime base
The finished substance is stored under the same conditions as ready-made slimes. Professionals recommend adhering to the following requirements:
- the container must meet the rules of tightness and not allow air to pass through;
- the base should not be kept at high or low temperatures; preference is given to a dry and cool room;
- periodically add a little water to the bottom of the container and leave the slime in it;
- do not touch the toy with dirty hands - grease, hairs, small specks of dirt will ruin any slime, especially transparent (clear);
- With prolonged use, air bubbles accumulate in the mass; to get rid of them, it is enough not to touch the toy for several days.
The rules specified will help to extend the life of the toy and preserve its basic properties.
Making a base for a slime is not difficult and does not require special knowledge. The components included in the composition are easily replaced by others, which does not affect the quality characteristics of the slime.
