Knitted things for dolls are in no way inferior to those sewn from fabrics. They do not require much effort to create. They are just as practical and beautiful, but at the same time they look more cozy and warm.

Features of knitting doll clothes
Knitting clothes for dolls has its own peculiarities. During this work, more attention and precision are required, well-developed fine motor skills. To achieve the desired, the following should be taken into account:
- The size of the loops and the thickness of the threads should correspond to the size of the doll. The legs and arms of the doll cannot be narrower than the loop. It is worth using very thin knitting needles, yarn, as well as smaller and more elegant fasteners (buttons, hooks, snaps).
- It is advisable to knit according to the pattern, but it is best to have a sample on hand, since due to incorrectly selected materials for the chosen model, the outfit may not look as good on the doll as you would like.
- Having chosen a knitting pattern, it is worth remembering that it still needs to be reduced to “doll sizes”. So that, for example, you don’t end up with one flower on the entire trouser leg, if that was not the intention.
- The finished work must be ironed through damp gauze so that it becomes clothing and does not remain a lump of wool.
What tools and materials will be needed for the work?
Before you start creating wonderful clothes, you should first choose a material that will be convenient to knit them from and will best suit the chosen model, as well as tools that can be used without much effort, and fasteners.
First, the material is selected. Most often, acrylic or cotton yarn is used in its pure form, but they can also be combined. In addition, semi-wool, microfiber, micropolyester, etc. are used for knitting.

For knitting dolls, it is worth choosing knitting needles: they are more convenient for creating outfits for little "girlfriends". There are knitting needles made of different materials: wood, aluminum, steel, plastic. But it is better to choose wooden ones: they are lighter and more convenient, the loops will not slip off them.
Important! The surface of the spokes must be absolutely smooth. There should be no burrs or roughness on it, which will later cause snags and knots.
When knitting for dolls, it is better to use needles of sizes 1-3. Also, needlewomen use stocking needles (5 pcs.). But recently, many choose circular needles, as they have proven themselves to be the most convenient and easy to use.

When choosing fasteners, most people opt for hooks, which can be immediately attached to the item. Less often, they turn to the option of metal buttons, because they still need to be either sewn on or pinned.
Please note! The least used are buttons, for which additional loops need to be knitted.
How to knit pants for a Baby Born doll
In fact, knitting pants for a doll is not that difficult. To knit pants for a doll, you will need: yarn (many master classes recommend acrylic), knitting needles number 2.5.
To understand how to knit pants for a doll, a beginner needs to follow the following algorithm. First, you need to measure the doll's dimensions and draw a pattern. You need to measure 4 indicators:
- Doll's ankle (A).
- Leg circumference at the top (B)
- Leg length (C).
- Front length (D).

Please note! Knitting will go from the bottom up. First one leg is knitted, then the second, identical to the first.
The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- It all starts with a set of 36 loops (main - 34 + 2 edge loops). The first edge loop is removed without knitting, and the last one should be purl.
- Next, knit 6 rows in stocking stitch (all of them should be knit).
- Next, starting from the 7th row, move to the front surface (odd rows - front loops, even rows - back loops).
- To make the trouser leg gradually widen, every 6 rows one loop is added on both sides. They are knitted from a crossed drawstring, one after the first edge, and the other before the last.
- There should be 36 rows, 46 loops on each knitting needle. The thread is open, the end is secured.
- Next, the second leg is knitted in the same way.

- After this, both legs are folded in half, and the back halves are removed using knitting needles, pins or fishing lines.
- Another row is knitted (only on the front half), after that 4 loops are cast on to the knitting needle, then the front half of the second leg is knitted. After that, it is knitted to 4 central loops and 2 decreases are made (1 and 2, 3 and 4 loops are knitted together).
- In the same way, knit rows 3, 5, 7, 9 and subsequent rows to the desired height (to the doll’s waist).
- The next step is knitting a 1*1 elastic (alternating front and back rows). Knit 6 rows, then close the loops.

- After this, the front part is removed and work moves to the back part.
- The first 8 rows are knitted in the same way as the front ones.
- Next, several shortened rows are made. This is done so that the pants do not slip down when trying to seat the doll.
- Row 9. Knit with knit stitches, leaving 2 stitches unknitted to the end of the row. After this, the work is turned over and a yarn over is made.
- 9+1 row. Performed with purl stitches, without knitting 2 loops to the end of the row. After this, the work is turned over and a yarn is made.
- 9+2 and 9+4 rows. Similar to row 9.
- Rows 9+3 and 9+5. Knit the same way as row 9+1.
- Row 9+6. Knit with front loops, knit to the end of the row, yarn over together with the next loop, front loop.
- Row 10. Worked with purl stitches, knitted to the end of the row, yarn over with the next stitch, crossed purl stitch.
- The following rows are knitted to the elastic band (it should be the same as on the front part) with the front surface. Then there are 6 rows of elastic band, as in the front part. The loops are closed.
- Afterwards, the side seams and the crotch seam are sewn with a thread that matches the color of the garment. The ends of the threads are hidden inside.

Important! The elastic tied around the doll may not be enough to keep the pants firmly on the doll.
There are several options to fix this:
- Fold the edge and insert the elastic. If you choose this method, you should take this fold into account when knitting.
- Sew elastic along the inside.
- Thread the elastic thread along the waistband. It is most convenient to thread it with a hook. It is better to do it in 2-3 rows. The ends are hidden inside.

Knitting pants for dolls with knitting needles
Before you start knitting for a doll, you should decide on the model of trousers. Like human trousers, there are many options for doll trousers. These can be shorts, or palazzo trousers to the heels, or simply straight, etc. But most often, knitting trousers for dolls is determined by the choice of either straight (they can slightly widen towards the top), or tapered towards the bottom, or tapered towards the top, and the bottom is flared.
Below is a step-by-step description of how to knit straight pants for a doll with knitting needles. For this you will need: yarn (preferably cotton, but you can knit from any), two number 2.5 knitting needles, and elastic thread.
Please note! First, you need to draw a pattern. You can use the same diagram as for pants (no need to measure the ankle).
In this case, the trousers will be knitted for a Barbie doll.
The algorithm is as follows:
- Cast on 25 stitches on two knitting needles and knit 40 rows with a 1*1 elastic band (alternating between front and back stitches), the first one will be front. After this, the trouser leg begins to expand.
- To do this, 2 rows are knitted so that at the end of these rows, before the edge, two loops are knitted from one loop (once from the bottom, the other from the top).
- Next, 4 rows are done with a simple elastic band.
- After this, 2 more rows are made with additions, etc.
- As a result, it turns out that rows 41, 42, 47, 48, 53, 54, 59, 60 are knitted with additions, and 43-46, 49-52, 55-58, 61-64 - with a simple elastic band.
Important! After this, a mark is made (you can attach pins on both sides), which will then mark the end of the leg.
- Next, rows 65-82 are knitted with a 1*1 elastic band.
- In row 83 all loops are closed.
The first half of the pants is ready. The second half is knitted similarly to the first.
After this, the trousers are sewn together. First the legs (up to the pins), then the upper parts (where the seat is) are sewn together.

All that remains is to pull the elastic thread through the waist.
