What is adhesive webbing and why is it needed?
Interlining tape for clothes is necessary for gluing parts. Cobwebs are sold in rolls, the price is not high at all. One roll will last for a long time. In the 90s of the 20th century, they did not skimp on hidden seams and sewing overlocks. Cobweb does the same thing, only with the help of glue, and is much cheaper.
Of course, instead of a spider stitch or overlock, you can make a regular shuttle stitch.
The advantage of spider web tape for gluing fabric is that it is safe for health and does not contain chemicals or toxins.
It also does not accumulate static electricity and has a very low price. But it also has a number of disadvantages. Because the material is very thin, it can be easily torn. It is relatively short-lived in use. It quickly loses its functions, and you have to additionally stick on tape.
Where is spider web used?
Every woman should have fabric tape in stock, it can be useful in different situations. The most common uses: when you need to hem the bottom of an item, but there is no way to hem it; if there is a cut in the material, and you need to carefully glue it from the inside so that the fabric does not come apart; if you need to stick a small patch or decoration on an item; when you need to reinforce the lining; if you need to attach certain decorations to clothing; you can easily shorten curtains without using a machine.

Classification of adhesive tapes: which one to choose
The web for gluing fabric can be of different widths (from 5 mm to 80 mm for different materials and use cases) and densities (approximately from 0.17 to 0.25 mm thick). It is sold in rolls or packages. In the store, you can buy as much as you need for processing by the meter.
Adhesive webbing for fabric is sold in two types:
- cobweb without parchment (wide tape);
- spider web mesh with paper base (double-sided).
How to properly glue cobwebs to fabric
To understand how to use the adhesive web, you need to prepare all the tools.
- Ruler, centimeter.
- Spider web with paper.
- Scissors.
- Clothing marker.
- Pins.
- Iron.
- Desktop.
- Cotton fabric and gauze to iron the product.
Step-by-step execution of work:
- The fabric needs to be ironed;
- Measure out the required amount of tape. Add a few centimeters for overlap;
- Place paper on the back of the product, leaving a few millimetres from the edge.
- Heat the iron to 110 degrees.
- Iron on the paper and remove it.
- Place the second part on top to cover the base of the web by 1–2 mm.
- Iron the item for several minutes.
Repairing clothes with adhesive tape
You need to cut the tape of the required length and put it between the material that needs to be glued, iron the item with a hot iron for 30 seconds. The glue will begin to melt, the material will stick together.
Important! If it is necessary to hem the bottom of the fabric, to tighten its edge, it is advisable to use a paper-based web.
To glue the trousers, you need to follow the instructions:
- From the inside, mainly along the edge of the fabric, stepping back a few millimeters, place the tape with the sticky side towards the fabric, paper side up.
- Iron the item with a hot iron.
This must be done slowly so that the web lies evenly.
- When it is completely glued, you need to remove the paper.
- Make a small fold so that it covers this ribbon.
- Iron the fold.
If there is no mesh or the glued tape has started to come off and smoothing it out does not help, then you need to use fabric glue.
The choice of glue is quite wide, but it is necessary to look at the composition. The most popular types are:
- Secunda glue is transparent, odorless, not very liquid, and is also resistant to water and detergents;
- Liquid Thread glue is very easy to use and has a water base;
- JAVANA glue is resistant to frost and heat, moisture-resistant, and can also be fixed with an iron.
How to remove adhesive webbing from fabric
Sometimes the webbing is glued unevenly or the product needs to be re-sewn. Therefore, difficulties may arise when removing the tape. You can contact the studio or do it yourself.
Methods:
- Peeling off with an iron;
- Use of alcohol-containing solutions.
Method one
How to glue a spider web to fabric with an iron? Carefully, without touching the product, treat the gluing area with steam for 2-3 minutes. The tape will start to peel off because of the steam. After work, remove the glued components of the material and remove the glue. It is simply removed from the surface of the fabric. But small parts of the tape may remain on the product. They are removed after washing. Therefore, as soon as it has been removed, the item must be washed immediately. If there is no iron, you can use a hair dryer on the hottest setting. Blow the product for 5 minutes.
Method two
The product can also be easily cleaned using alcohol. For work, medical alcohol is required, 70 or 90%.
Carefully apply alcohol to the cotton wool and smear it on the area with the glue. After five minutes, you can remove the tape from the clothes. If the glue has eaten in very strongly, then the cotton wool should be moistened with alcohol and applied to the fabric for a few minutes.
After work, the alcohol solution will have an unpleasant smell. The item should be washed immediately using a rinse aid.
Another way is vegetable oil. In the same case as with alcohol, lubricate the cotton wool generously with oil and apply it to the place where the glue and fabric are connected. After a couple of minutes, you can remove the cotton wool and slowly remove the tape.
Important! One of the difficult but sure ways is to use an eraser. You need to apply force and rub the material until the last pieces of glue roll off completely.
You can also use solvent, acetone or turpentine. But you should use such substances with caution. You should wear a respirator and protective gloves on your hands.
Adhesive tape for fabric should be in the arsenal of every person. With its help, you can repair cuts or holes in clothes yourself. It is quite easy to use, even a person who has no experience in sewing will easily understand how to use gossamer. You only need to follow some rules when working with the tape, so that you do not have to re-glue it later.
