What fabric to choose for children's panties

To make children's underwear, it is necessary to use natural fabrics. You can also use mixed ones, in which the proportion of artificial fibers does not exceed 5-10%. Moreover, the latter are more durable. They wrinkle less and are able to hold their shape well.

The most commonly used materials are:

• Kulirka contains 95-100% cotton. The admixture of artificial material makes the fabric softer and more pliable. This thin fabric can stretch in the cross-section, but cannot in the longitudinal direction. The fabric is hygroscopic, the skin can breathe through it. This fabric is cared for in the usual way for cotton.
• Interlock is a fabric that has increased density. This material is suitable for children's insulated panties. It can be washed at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees. It is better to do this by hand, not in a machine. Drying in the sun is not recommended. This fabric can be ironed.
• Ribana is a flexible and stretchable material. Its surface has clearly visible stripes. This fabric is often used to sew vests, T-shirts or panties. It contains 5% lycra. When washing, use water no hotter than 30 degrees.
• Bamboo fiber is not considered completely natural. This is due to the fact that chemical methods of processing the original material are used in its production. It is used to make children's underwear. It does not shed or fade. The material is able to absorb water well and does not rub the skin.

How to sew panties for a boy

To sew them, a pattern for boy's panties must be prepared. It can be made by taking measurements from the child or using existing panties.

The drawing will look like the one shown in the figure below.

In the first case, you need to measure the hip circumference and the leg circumference. Based on this, you need to make the following details:

• The back part is required and consists of two halves (1).
• The central front piece (2) is cut out. There should be two copies of it.
• You will need two front side pieces (3).

• The middle part of the front (1) in the amount of two pieces;

• Two gussets (3);

The following actions are then performed:

1. The pattern of the boy's boxers should be transferred to the fabric, which is pre-folded in half. You can outline the contours with chalk or a piece of soap. If you choose the second option, the drawn lines will disappear when steamed. It is undesirable to use soap that contains cream additives. In this case, greasy streaks may remain on the fabric.
2. Now you need to cut out the pieces according to the pattern of the boy's panties. Before that, you need to pin them together so that they don't shift relative to each other.
3. You need to sew a dart on the middle part of the panties.

Performed using the outer needle of the overlock, leaving a tail of thread 7 cm long. It is necessary to secure it. Pull it through the seam using a needle.

You need to do the same on the second such part.

1. Now you need to fold the front part of the panties. To do this, you need the part you just processed (1) with the right side up and two side pieces (2) attached to it on the left and right sides. Place the second central part (1) on top with the right side down.

1. You will need some suitable cotton fabric.

To start sewing, you need to prepare a pattern for children's panties. There are two ways to do this:

1. Create a pattern based on measurements.
2. Use the underwear you already have and make a pattern based on it.

In the first case, the basis for calculating the parameters of the pattern of panties for girls is half the hip circumference (HHC).

The calculation is performed according to the following figure.

5. Now we proceed to calculate the back of the panties. In this case, AG is divided in two, 5 cm are counted from B and a straight line is drawn through the obtained marks. One centimeter is measured from the middle and the third point is obtained. Now an arc is drawn through them.

In addition to the front and back, you need to make two gussets, which are additionally sewn onto the bottom of the panties.

You can make a pattern without making calculations. In this case, you need to take the existing panties or swimsuit and get a pattern by tracing them. To do this, you need to put the folded in half on a sheet of paper and mark their edges.

To sew, you need to do the following:

1. The pattern is laid out on the fabric, outlined with chalk, and then the pieces are cut out.
2. The front, gussets and back are folded together. They will look like this.

1. Then the seams are sewn using a sewing machine.
2. Elastic is sewn to the edges where the legs are. Then they are folded over and the edge is sewn.
3. Now it is necessary to process the sides. First they need to be pinned. Then they are sewn to each other.
4. Sew an elastic band to the top, fold it over and sew up the edge.
