A few years ago, fur, suede and leather sheepskin coats were at the peak of popularity, but now more and more people use comfortable and practical parkas and down jackets. Let's consider what can be done from an old sheepskin coat so that it will serve for many more years.
What can be made from an old sheepskin coat
Many people have probably wondered what can be sewn from a sheepskin coat, and they themselves did not suspect how many things are made independently from fur and suede.

Vest
It is easiest to remake a vest from an unnecessary or out-of-fashion sheepskin coat. If the model suits you and fits your figure well. It is enough to cut off the sleeves, process the seams and shorten the length, if necessary. If the intended model is radically different from the style of the sheepskin coat, then you need to do the following:
- rip the sheepskin coat completely along the seams;
- make a pattern;
- sew a new vest from the available material.
If desired, you can replace the fasteners, for example, instead of buttons, sew in a fashionable zipper, decorate the bottom with a leather or suede belt. Thus, from a warm sheepskin coat you can get a luxurious accessory for spring and autumn.
If the sheepskin coat is in excellent condition, it can be shortened and hemmed to create a more modern model.

Uggs
Ugg boots are popular, comfortable and warm winter footwear, loved by both children and adults. Original models are made at factories from suede, leather and fur, just like sheepskin coats. Therefore, there is nothing easier (and cheaper) than sewing your own winter boots.

First, you need to prepare all the necessary materials and tools: paper, scissors, needle, thick thread, an old sheepskin coat, ruler, glue, chalk (soap), sole (you can buy polyurethane soles or use a whole sole from an old shoe as a basis.
Next, draw a pattern depending on the foot size and the desired height of the boots. Then all the parts are sewn together. Before attaching the sole, you need to lay a leather tape along the bottom of the boot, which will serve as a seal between the sole and the fabric. In addition to sewing, you can glue it to prevent moisture from getting in. If desired, you can buy an "UGG" label in a sewing accessories store and attach it, like in original ugg boots.

House slippers
Slippers for the house can be made in the form of flip-flops, moccasins or house boots, which have been very popular in recent years.
Sewing slippers is practically no different from uggs. Of course, you don't need a thick sole for home shoes, it's enough to make a fur double sole with a sealer from a sheepskin coat. Also, rubber or leather for the sole is often used for home shoes.
You need to trace the foot on paper - this will be the sole. Then draw the side parts, transfer them to the sheepskin coat and cut them out. It is better to sew with a loop stitch using nylon threads that will not break while wearing the slippers.
Important! You can use shin sleeves to sew indoor boots. Then the work will be 2 times less. All that remains is to make the top and sew it to the sole.

Coupling
The muff was popular many years ago and has been coming back into fashion in recent years. It is the easiest to sew. You can cut off the fur sleeve of a sheepskin coat and use it without processing. If the sleeve does not fit, you can sew it from the back. In fact, the muff looks like a pipe, so the pattern is a rectangle that is sewn together with horizontal edges.
It can be made from suede with fur trim, or you can turn the sheepskin coat inside out and use the lining fur part.

Insoles
Fur insoles will help to insulate outdoor and indoor shoes. To cut them to size, you can use several options:
- Use old insoles from shoes and cut new ones to their size.
- Measure your leg, draw a pattern on paper, transfer it to the sheepskin coat with chalk and cut it out.
Advice! To make the product as neat as possible, you need to cut it with a stationery knife or sharp scissors from the suede side, not the fur side.
If the sheepskin coat is for the demi-season and not very thick, you need to cut out 2 insoles and sew 2 together for insulation.
Bag
The simplest little clutch bag can be sewn from sleeves. All you need to do is take the desired length, sew up the sides and instead of a seam on the sleeve, make a zipper or a button. Then make handles or a strap so that the clutch can be worn over the shoulder.
You can also sew a large roomy bag similar to the UGG or GUCCI collection. To do this, you will need to make a pattern and cut out the necessary parts from the hem. If pockets are included, they can be left in the front of the bag for decoration. You also need to sew in a zipper and make handles. You can choose any fabric for the lining.
The bottom is also cut out, you can insert a seal between the suede fabric and the lining, even cardboard will do.
For decoration, you can use metal fittings, stones, rhinestones or labels of famous brands.
Headdress
From an old fur coat or winter coat, you can sew a cool six-panel hat or a men's-style earflaps hat (currently in trend). The work scheme is the same as when making other fur products. First, you need a pattern, according to which the parts are prepared.
Advice! To make it easier to sew suede or leather, it is better to use an awl or a large gypsy needle. The threads also need to be not ordinary, but nylon. They slide easily over the fabric, do not tear and guarantee a long service life of the item.
You need to cut out 2 pieces from patterns 1 and 2 from suede or leather, sew them with a lining of the same size and together to make a hat.
Important! If there is no fur on the sheepskin coat, a layer of synthetic padding can be sewn between the material and the lining to make the hat warm.
The visor is cut out from parts 4 and 4, and the ears are cut out from the rest. They need special attention. When fastening each part, the seams need to be smoothed out so that the product does not deform.
If desired, you can attach ties to the ears. They are sewn to the middle of the lower part of the ears.
Foot mat
What could be nicer than a fur rug by the bed or fireplace? It can be cut from the back as a whole piece or sewn. The shape of the rug is determined by personal preference. It can be square, round, rectangular or figured, with sides of different shapes.
Clothes for animals
It is not very easy to sew a jacket for a dog with your own hands, especially for a beginner. It is better to entrust this matter to a master. But if you want to try, then you need to make a pattern, depending on the desired model and the size of the pet. In fact, a sheepskin coat for a dog looks the same as for a person, only in a reduced form.
Pet bed
Let's consider how to remake a sheepskin coat into a cozy sleeping place for a pet. From the back or hem, cut out a circle or rectangle of the size that the bed should be. It will be more comfortable for the animal if there is fur inside the bed, so leather or suede fabric should be on the outside. Then you can sew both sleeves together without ripping them apart to get a long tube into which the insulation is stuffed. Then it is sewn to the prepared bottom and serves as the side parts of the bed.

Decorative pillow
Sewing pillows is not difficult. To sew 1 pillow measuring 30x30 cm you will need:
- 2 squares of fur, measuring 32x32 cm;
- 2 squares of fabric for stuffing 32x32 cm (you can use old cotton pillowcases);
- Hollow fiber or synthetic padding for stuffing.
First, the cotton parts are sewn together on all sides with the right side facing each other. On one side, you need to leave a gap of 5-7 cm, through which you can fill the pillow with insulation. Then the product needs to be turned inside out, stuffed and sewn up. After this, the upper part of the future pillow is sewn from the sheepskin coat on three sides.
Important! For convenience, a zipper is sewn into the last side. This will make it easier to clean the product and wash the filler.
Stool Cover
To sew a cover for the top of a stool, you need to measure its size, cut out a square and trim it with a ribbon or braid for beauty. For ease of use, you can make ties at the corners and attach the cover to the legs so that it does not slide off.

Mittens
Mittens can be sewn in several ways. The first is simple. On paper, you need to trace your hand and increase the pattern by 2 cm on each side. Cut out 4 parts, sew 2 together and you will get fur mittens.
The second option is a little more complicated. It requires a triple pattern, but the thumb will feel more comfortable when wearing the item. The pattern can be seen in the picture below. All the parts are sewn together with the right side facing each other, after which they need to be turned inside out.

Children's toys
There are many options for what you can make from an old sheepskin coat with your own hands. In addition to the above, these are children's toys. You can sew them yourself or entice your child to be creative. You can find patterns for any toy on the Internet. Then you need to redraw them with chalk on a sheepskin coat, fold the parts face to face and carefully sew them together.
Then turn it inside out, fill it with cotton wool or padding polyester and enjoy your freshly sewn toy. Noses, mouths and eyes can be made from buttons or you can buy ready-made fittings that you need to glue on at the end. It is better to use a silicone glue gun. When working with a child, it is important to observe safety precautions and not leave the baby alone with sharp objects.

Costume for a themed party
Masquerade masks, headdresses and costumes can also be sewn from old fur. If you can't do it yourself, you can go to a studio where they will quickly and efficiently make a costume for a child or an adult. You can take fur from a sheepskin coat to decorate the costume of a Snow Maiden, a fox, a hare and other animals.

Thus, you shouldn’t throw away your old sheepskin coat, but rather extend its life by making an original item, the variety of which is presented in this article.
